Striking Gold with Angel Strike

Medron Pryde strikes gold once again with the latest in his Jack of Harts series. He has dramatically improved as a writer and storyteller.

Full disclosure: Medron is a good friend of mine, and I actually proofread the manuscript before he published. To be honest, I had to read it twice because the first time through, I got so caught up in the story that I forgot to look for problems in the mechanics of the writing. So any mistakes that slipped through can be blamed on me.

my thoughts on To The Edge: Reflections

To The Edge: Reflections on Kingdom Leadership, Mission, and Innovation (2015) by J.D. Payne is, as the title suggests, a series of reflections on three different topics. Some can be read as reflections, others are almost suitable for a morning’s devotional reading.
In the digital age in which we currently exist, these reflections would each be suited for a stand-alone blog post, but somehow there is also a sense of connectedness that you might not get from reading a series of posts, one each day over a period of time.
Since I read Payne’s Strangers Next Door a few years ago, I’ve been a fan of his writing, and his heart for the kingdom. I was expecting something different when I offered to read and review this book, so when I started reading, it was a little disappointing – not with the content, just the format (amazing how we try to pigeonhole people). But as I continued reading I found myself caught up in the ponderings of one of the prominent voices in the fields of missions of the 21st century.
Each of the three sections has its own nuggets, there for the gleaning. Try “the Conference No One Hosts” on page 12 – a stark reminder of the all the mistakes, failures, financial outlay, and trial and error that go into finding what does work…. But wouldn’t it be great if someone would tell us what ¬doesn’t work before we spend the same amount of money and make the same mistakes.
And then we get to the reflections on mission, and again and again I was reminded of things that I’ve probably heard before, but have obviously forgotten: Ask for the story (p 52), the West is a mission field, (p 53), 8 tracks in an i-pod world (78); and don’t miss “That Deer-In-Headlights Look” on page 85. A reminder that we need to look into the fields and stop looking into the headlights.
And then just when you think you’ve adjusted to the possibilities that there are opportunities, and that maybe we are more prepared than we think, we get hit with the reflections on “INNOVATION” and realize that the way we’ve always done it, may work, but then again it might not, and just because we’ve never done it that way before doesn’t mean that it isn’t going to work. Payne provides some great new ideas about trying new ideas.
I started out thinking, OK, and ended up really liking this book.

WOW what a story

This author has become one of my favorite Christian writers. Dorothy Cunningham to be a Christian was horrible. She wanted everything to go her way, what was so bad her husband and the other elders had no control over her. She was a BULLY. Simone, Simone I wanted to jump on the pages of the book and choke her. I love this series. The love that Zeke had for Sandra aka Pastor Butts was awesome. This book spoke on a lot of relationships, some of the relationships the author left you wondering did Claire tell her husband about the baby, did Dinah and Rock get together. What happened to Pastor. Butts sister that was instrumental in starting some of the problems at the church. Cannot wait for book 5.

Superb Read

Talk about diabolical? The antagonist in this novel, Dorothy, epitomizes that word. But I like how Sandra handles her. She takes charge of God's church, puts that woman in her place, and stands her ground against the troublemakers. Pastors in our churches need to take a page from Sandra's book. God says in Joshua 1 to be strong and very courageous. This is what Pastor Sandra Butts is in this novel. I loved the romance between her and Zeke. The sweet and persistent way he convinced her of his love melted my heart. The tenderness between them in the Epilogue had me sighing to the final word. This is a superb read.

The story line is amazing. The strength that Sandra has, makes me wanna be a better christian. Zeke's ability to understand God differently from his parents because of his experiences makes me want to ask God for a better heart to serve Him.

Floyds transparency of ups and downs in his walk/leadership, as well as his deep insights were really touching. Do not miss this book that gives you a glimpse behind a strong and tender leader. This book disciples through written words. Love it when seasoned leaders share their wisdom and observations of a life well traveled!! Great find. This is the best of many resources I've read on Christian leadership. Terrific and concise format, with a lesson from Jesus, the author's considerable experience learning the lesson in ministry, and suggestions for applying the lesson to your life. Lessons are not just applicable to church leadership, but to any leadership situation, including business and more.

Chardin used the ground of religion to work in the field of science via paleontology, geology, and physics as he explored a deeper and relevant understanding of evolution.

Though each began from different intellectual platforms, they each crisscrossed into the other's territory of inquiry and related their ideas to include the full scope of humanity. One went deeply into soul and found matter, whereas, the other went deeply into matter and found soul. In their own ways both spent their careers trying to heal the split between spirit and matter in the weltanschauung of their times reflected in the human psyche and in the general religious views permeating most of Western culture.

Great go-to guide for your own creative life

I've read a goodly number of inspirational books over the last twelve years, and Melissa's 99 Keys definitely stands out among them. This book should be a particular draw among those who may want to figure out how to incorporate their long-neglected creative urge into daily life. There's a certain rhythm to the keys, and I like the sections they are put in; some overlap, but it's easy to remember things.

I really liked Melissa's most practical advice, like getting a journal, setting up an altar, things like that. Thats not fluff. And she carries an authentic voice when she gives advice about things like that. Hard to explain, but I can "hear" it. Melissa has led a very unconventional and soul-fed life, and this outside-the-box mentality flows through her advice to her workshop participants and ultimately to her readers.

Oh, and Melissa's advice is not nearly as intimidating as a long-form program like The Artist's Way. I bought it and never got going partly because it was so structured and so long. On the other hand, I'm already using many of Melissa's keys and have gotten some good reminders to apply to my own creative efforts as well new ways of seeing other ones.

99 Keys INDEED! What a wonderful guide to keeping your creative juices flowing freely! Some are very common-sense to me - like enjoying the creative work of others. (concerts, art, etc.) Others are things that I never would have guessed were tied to my creativity - like responsibility. Whoa! But of course it is, once you read what she has to say about it. It made me realize just how much time I spend in a negative space that isn't helping to boost my creativity at all and gave me so many (99 to be exact) ways to change that around!

About the Author

MaryLu Tyndall, a Christy Award finalist and bestselling author of the Legacy of the King’s Pirates series, is known for her adventurous historical romances filled with deep spiritual themes. Highly recommend!

If you are looking for a series that will intrigue and excite you, search no further. The Escape to Paradise Trilogy has so much going on that it will keep your mind reeling and spark all of your senses. I won't go into any details, except to say that MaryLu did a great job bringing the lives of these people to life....incorporating spiritual warfare in a very spine-tingling way. Having all 3 books together like this is great.....you can just keep reading and reading and reading.

Escape to Paradise

"Escape to Paradise Trilogy" by MaryLu Tyndall is a collection of three books, "Forsaken Dreams", "Elusive Hope", and "Abandoned Memories". This was published by Shiloh Run Press on May 1st, 2015.

I've previously reviewed two out of three of these books, so I'll just sum up the trilogy and collection in general.

These stories are set directly after the Civil War, and follow the lives of several Confederates looking to escape their war-torn lives and go to start over in Brazil. Things aren't all as they seem, however, when mysterious things begin to happen around camp, some realize that in addition to the unrest among the travellers, there is spiritual unrest among the ruins of an ancient temple nearby. As the characters grow to love each other and overcome their differences, they must band together to fight the darkness trying to settle there as well. This does make for some really intense scenes, so I'd wait to start this series until you have a lot of spare time on your hands to finish it.

This collection, in its print form, I found to have really thin pages, which I was afraid would tear. Obviously, if one gets the electronic version, this would not be an issue.

Best book I've read in 2015 !

I embarked on an exotic adventure with a group of Confederates who were emigrating to Brazil in the aftermath of the Civil War. We were off to build a paradise in the Brazilian jungle! I was totally drawn in from the first paragraph and through all 960 pages! It was so descriptive and full of action. I don't know how MaryLu could put so much on each page! I loved joining the emigrants on the journey from ship to an exotic jungle. Every person had a past that they were wanting to escape and the New Hope paradise was going to be a new start. I was fascinated with how they were connected and didn't know that until well underway on the ship to New Hope! Some not until the end of the book! I loved this story.. Secrets, superstition, disaster after disaster, romance, love, faith and redemption, it covered it all! I thank the author for gifting me a copy and my opinion - I highly recommend Escape to Paradise! This book is at the top of my 'Best Book I've read in 2015' list!
