But finding the envelope thrusts her into new choices . . . and new danger. Someone knows more about Lexi’s heritage than she does, wants what she’s found, and will risk her life to get it. Old Testament treasure hunt
By chrisGA
I thought I knew where the story was going—a sweet, coming-of-age story of eighteen-year-old Lexi as she discovers her own past while exploring an old house. Lexi is likeable and inspires our sympathy for her feelings of the angst and restlessness that comes when taking the first steps of independence and autonomy. She is searching for something that she can’t quite describe, and her frustration over the romance of her best friend with the boy she secretly loves adds further conflict. However, the book from the beginning is sprinkled with hints of a somber responsibility that is in store for her, secrets kept by her parents, some unnamed threat to her safety, and some mysterious link to the old house. Also, tantalizing the reader is a strange friendship between computer hackers here and in Saudi Arabia and the plot they are hatching. By the 25th page, I was happily hooked and kept reading until the end which resulted in no housework done and little sleep. It was worth it.
Lexi and her friends are practicing Christians so her faith is a subtle but ever-present theme in the book. We are encouraged to see God’s hand in the events of Lexi’s, and our own, lives as well as listen to God’s still, small voice of guidance and reassurance. As the treasure hunt begins, the Biblical references become part of the plot.
The characters were believable, and the storyline filled with deliciously suspenseful intrigue. I especially appreciated the author’s use of language. The descriptions were filled with vivid imagery: shards of lightning, thunder bruising the sky, fingers on fire with curiosity and anticipation. The action was engaging, but I also enjoyed savoring the way she turned a phrase or two or many. Overall, this was a delightful book, and I recommend it highly.

Unusual Legacy Leads to Adventure
By Anne Rightler
Sally Chambers has given readers a delightful experience in her book The Stonekeepers. Perhaps a Young Adult genre, it certainly can be enjoyed by the 'mature' reader too. Lexi, 18, is determined to save the crumbling and somehow familiar mansion, Northbrick, from its soon scheduled destruction. Little does she realize the mystery and adventure she and her two best friends, Jenni, and Ridge, will unleash when they decide to explore the abandoned building. Old letters, ominous warnings, and odd happenings, from Massachusetts to the Middle East The Stonekeepers takes readers on quite the adventure. Friendships are tested and faith is affirmed as Lexi and her friends find a treasure and realize its import. Will they be able to complete the task ahead despite the evil forces close on their trail? Chambers uses Biblical references to validate the historicity of the story. Intimate conversations between Lexi and her Father God are written in italics throughout the book showing the depth of Lexi's trust in her God. Mystery, suspense, typical teen angst, romance and world travel, The Stonekeepers has it all.

Great Young Adult Adventure
By Daysong Reflections
When I agreed to review “The Stonekeepers”, I was unfamiliar with the author and took a chance because I thought the book might be interesting. I did not realize that teens and young adults seem to be its targeted audience. Nevertheless, I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.
From the very beginning the author sets the perfect tone with a mysterious old house that seems to reach out to Lexi Christensen. When she learns that the house is scheduled to be torn down by the city, she and her two best friends set out to stop it. Along the way, she discovers some secrets that actually do connect her to the old home. Little does she realize the adventure and danger she, her friends, and family will encounter before summer is over.
The story itself is so imaginative yet keeps its characters and their relationships very realistic. I liked that Lexi was a typical teen who had conflicts with her parents, a crush on the same guy her best friend claimed, yet she was always determined to practice her faith and to follow the gentle voice of the Holy Spirit.
I believe this is a book that would be enjoyed by most teens and even some adults. I enjoyed it and these days I am far from young.
