About the Author
Tom Cheetham, PhD, is a philosopher, biologist, poet and teacher and the author of four previous books on creative imagination in psychology, religion and the arts. He is a former professor of biology and environmental studies and is now a Fellow of the Temenos Academy in London and Adjunct Professor of Human Ecology at the College of the Atlantic in Bar Harbor, Maine. He lectures regularly in Europe and the US. He and his wife live on a homestead in rural Maine. They have two grown children.

Re-humanizing Imagination and Humanity

This is an important little book. It is Cheetham’s 5th book on Henry Corbin, as well as on his influences on and similarities and differences from James Hillman and Carl Jung. This current book provides an easy entry into Corbin’s work and why he was so influential in the fields of spirituality, psychology and poetry. The book is informative, providing summaries of Corbin, Hillman and Jung’s work, while also being a work of beauty, poetry, and I dare say, even theophany and gnosis – as it helps us understand to see and understand the role of the imagination in Creation and how we are creators and participators as well as createds.

The book also achieves a good balance of a conversational tone in which Cheetham is present and works alongside Corbin and Hillman and shares of himself as well as engaging in scholarly work. Perhaps it is no coincidence as Cheetham is releasing his first book of poetry, Boundary Violations, this year.

The primary focus of Imaginal Love is on the central or at least integral role of imagination in spirituality, poetry, and humanity. Corbin wrote of a tripartite model of reality, with the typical dualism of matter and spirit being linked by a third realm, which he referred to with various concepts, such as the mundus imaginalis, the Imaginal, or the ‘alam al-mithal. Those familiar with Hillman and Jung’s work will see the influence of these concepts in the methods of Active Imagination and the emphasis on the imaginal and mythopoetic. Regardless of what he called this realm, its importance was that it was here that matter was spiritualized and spirit materialized. This third realm connects and orients matter toward spirit. Corbin traced the loss of this realm to the 12th century with the beginning of philosophical systems that separated spirit from matter.

Awareness of or connection to this intermediate realm creates a different state of being, it engenders a different mode of seeing, being and experiencing the world. This state, the Sufis called ta’wil, is a state of interpretation of texts, world and being with continuous reference to the Divine or the secular could say the numinous. This state of being is crucial to understand visions and dreams, whether they are from indigenous traditions (which did not develop the matter-spirit division) or of modern experiencers of visions, such as Carl Jung or Philip K. Dick. The Imaginal is thus not only crucial to understanding mysticism, poetry and visionary consciousness, but it is also a way of life or a path in which an individual can strive to be open to states of being that come from the imaginative connections between spirit and matter.

Orientation toward the Imaginal, Love of it, or connection to the Love that it is a source of, re-spiritualizes and re-humanizes. Corbin writes that one is human only in relation to God, or God’s intermediary, the angel of one’s being (the ‘alam al-mithal is also the angelic realm, the intermediaries between Spirit and matter). His work is thus a therapeutic endeavour in which an individual moves from a state of disconnected matter (an object) toward a state of spirit and matter in constant back and forth creation, in which the object can move toward becoming a subject, or a Person. Thus we are fully human only when we let go of our views of ourselves as egos and material, physical objects. We become human or re-humanized through letting go of our insistence on ourselves as separate matter and egos and open our hearts to Relationship.

This is a wonderful and beautiful book, important for establishing Cheetham as a Person as well as in illuminating the importance of the imaginal and the works of Corbin and Hillman.

review of Imaginal Love by Tom Cheetham

Cheetham gives up the traditional subject/object, (mind/body, literal/metaphorical, form/matter) philosophical perspectives for an idle/icon paradoxical world view, within a cyclical time and with no space for consciousness, the unconscious, the world, me, you, to be experienced as abstract nouns. All these rather become modes that live and view life in verbs and adverbs and speaks of events rather than objects. Everything "bursts with life". Presence of concrete being, transforming our need to conquer and destroy into one of discovering, exploring, creating, loving.

It is truly an impressive book that transforms into an excellent source for depth clinicians to learn about the way of Jungian psychotherapy.

Cheetham awakens Corbin at his psychological best this time and does it very well to the point there were times I thought I was reading James Hillman himself, bringing up to date his ideas.

I was searching for this book way back at the turn of the century. It had become obvious then that there was a need for further discussion of Corbin's literature within Archetypal Psychology. But political & religious events illuminated psychology in a very peculiar and unique way through the first decade of our present century. Of special concern for this present book review, it seemed these events may have slow down and even stop for a time the creative flow of Archetypal Psychology, a psychology characterized by the integration of psychological Jung with mystical, abrahamic (Judeo-Christo-Islamic) Henry Corbin. It becomes obvious that all along through that first decade, Cheetham continued developing and integrating important mystical/philosophical Corbin into Archetypal Psychology in a very successful way, returning Archetypal Psychology back to it's corresponding top position at keeping alive the recreation of Jung's Analytical Psychology's original theoretical notion.

What an absolute joy of a book! Tom Cheetham has done the seemingly impossible and found a way to bring together the ideas of James Hillman, Henry Corbin, and C.G.Jung. If the author's remarkable insight and engaging prose style weren't enough, he also reveals a little of his own fight with this material, making it all the easier for we readers to find our way to step up to the challenge of this most challenging material. The result is pure gold, so dive in, Imagine, Love, listen to the angels, and forget your self.

Amy Major is a trained psychic, empath, and medium with more than 20 years' experience in the paranormal and spiritual fields. I was lucky enough to get my copy of this book early. This is a wonderful resource for those interested in rescue work or just curious about the spirits that surround us. Amy's descriptions are educational, enlightening and encouraging. This is a must read for anyone curious about spiritual energies or interested in energy rescue work.! Light After Death !

"Toward The Light" is a wonderful book which explains the very complex notion of "crossing over". For centuries, people have known about moving personal anecdotes pertinent to dying, seeing the light and traveling to "the other side".

Traditionally, relatives and friends meet us as we make the transition from the physical realm to the spiritual one.This transition is quite considerable with a personal transformation from being confined to a finite physical body to being reduced to a light form weighing perhaps an ounce or less.Naturally, a wafer-like spirit requires much less sustenance over a physical body which requires constant food, air, water and protective garments.

The author explains how unhappy souls populate the earth.They do so until a spiritual release is obtained from a horrendous earthly event. i.e. a murder, suicide or unresolved death. Although the book explains many complex theological and philosophical notions, the concept of a hell or eternal punishment seems to be absent.The absence of a certain punishment for having lived a bad life contradicts longstanding literary, religious and legal codes like "The Code of Hammurabi" and others.

Despite omitting eternal punishment for transgressions, the book still advances the considerable dilemma which is "What happens to us after death?" A resolution of this important question makes the book a solid value for academic scholars everywhere.

There is further transformative evidence which helps to explain our transition from the physical to a light form.This evidence is seen in the Shroud of Turin which contains a perfectly symmetrical 3D image of Jesus Christ. This symmetry defies our current understanding of the laws of Physics !

That's fine by me

I think this is a very well written, well organized book, and I applaud Ms. Major for her work with the lost. The chapters include Where Earthbound Spirits Reside, Residual Energy, Spirit Attachments, Forms of Spirit and Entity Activity, Spirit Communication Tools, Psychic Protection, Non-Human Negatives, Spirit Rescue Is Not Ghost Hunting and How To Become A Rescue Medium. plus a little biographical info. It's clear that the author is passionate about helping the lost to move on out. That's fine by me. I don't want them in my neighborhood. I believe that Amy Major has street cred and her book is a keeper.

What else is Scientology?

I didn't get much out of this kindle edition, besides having general knowledge of Scientology already. There was no mention of what to expect if someone decides to investigate/join the church/cult, which I was hoping to read about. It is also very short with not much substance to consider purchasing it. I did get this download for free, it is not worth paying for.

Super short book. Not worth the price. It only tells you the VERY SIMPLE basics of this religion/cult and does not even enter into the depths of this so called religion and all its extreme quirks, brainwashing, past and present legal problems, government scandals, and more.

This is short, took me about half an hour to read through it. It doesn't really tell me anything about Scientology - only what Scientology can do for me. Not what I wanted to know. A waste of time. Thankfully, it didn't cost me anything but my time.

About the Author

Ren? Descartes, known as the Father of Modern Philosophy and inventor of Cartesian coordinates, was a seventeenth century French philosopher, mathematician, and writer. Descartes made significant contributions to the fields of philosophy and mathematics, and was a proponent of rationalism, believing strongly in fact and deductive reasoning. Working in both French and Latin, he wrote many mathematical and philosophical works including The World, Discourse on a Method, Meditations on First Philosophy, and Passions of the Soul. He is perhaps best known for originating the statement I think, therefore I am.

Highly Reccommended!

This edition of the Harvard Classics was quite enjoyable. Descartes' philosophy is very interesting. Voltaire's perspective on English society is great reading. The edition was well-formatted. The section Introductions were all included, and the table of contents worked well. This publisher makes these versions available for a great price. Well worth the value--and very enriching reading, indeed.

In the same way, American influence grew exponentially during the first half of the 20th century and through two world wars, so was one of its smallest religious groups, the pacifist Mennonites. John Sharp effectively tells this church story through the life of Orie O. Miller who personified this growth and influence through higher education, business, charities and mission. For anyone trying to understand how the North American Mennonites grew during this period or know of institutions such as Goshen College, Mennonite Central Committee, or Eastern Mennonite Missions, Sharp's quite personal family and church story is both enjoyable and insightful.

I just kept on reading! This book about a 20th century leader is inspiring. Sharp conducted extensive research to bring out the many details of human interest. He describes both the context and times in which Miller lived and the qualities of his leadership which was so effective yielding astounding results. Chapters 5 and 6, as especially captivating with details about the relief work in Russia and the founding of Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) in the 1920's.

About the Author
Dustin DiPerna is an author, teacher, and group facilitator. He received a Bachelor of Science degree from Cornell University and a Master of Liberal Arts degree in Religion from Harvard University. He is co-founder Bright Alliance and Synergy Forum.

Dustin has been a student of Integral Theory for the past decade working directly with American philosopher Ken Wilber. He practices in the spiritual lineages of Mahamudra and Dzogchen, under the guidance of Daniel P. Brown and Rahob Tulku Rinpoche.

Clear, illuminating, and unifying the essence of all religious traditions

DiPerna continues to take Ken Wilber's approach towards religion and spiritual awakening and take it further in both highly sophisticated and accessible ways. One of the gifts of this book is that it allows some of the major world's religions to be understood within the context of development within their own traditions. This both allows those practicing within a tradition to see how they can spiritually awaken within their home religious stream as well as respect and understand other religious streams operating at various developmental levels.

Aside from the intellectual rigor and specificity of DiPerna's writing, his heart and vision for what is possible on the general human religious/spiritual journey is both inspiring and palpably evocative of a trust that despite all the intensity present in the world, we are moving towards something beautiful. His view is optimistic and grounded, mystical and practical, and has the transmission of someone who deeply understands the unity that binds us all as human beings on one path of becoming who we most deeply are. I highly recommend this and all of his books that offer a fresh, humble, and invitational approach towards the meta-philosophy of religion and human spiritual potential.

I love the work of Ken Wilber and have been a student of Integral Theory for years. I am so grateful DiPerna continues to take Wilber's framework forward in such a solid way.

Like so many people, I abandoned any connection to conventional religion in my early teens. My feeling was that the traditional religious worldview of mythical-magical beliefs didn't align with the more rational aspects of my own intelligence. This book helped me to understand that there are mature and even rational versions of religion that can go hand and hand with my own rationality.

Dustin takes Wilber's work to a fuller and deeper level of application. It was powerful to read the examples given of each stage of development from each religion. For the first time, I could actually see a pathway forward that engaged religion in a positive way. I'll never look at religion the same way in my own life now that I've read this book.

One of the most wonderful gifts of this book is its ability to look at each of these traditions spirally, throwing light on the differing arcs of consciousness of practitioners in an evolutionary cosmos. This is such a synthetic and truly integral effort, and it adds much to the groundwork of the coming waves. It is a beautiful book!

Great book for those who are interested in knowing the truth about the false claims of Islam and Muhammad. Claims of scientific and prophetic knowledge at the time of Muhammad are exposed as pure fallacies. The author, Christian Prince, is extremely knowledgeable of Islam, Muhammad, the Quran and traditions or hadiths. This book, along with his other book, The Deception of Allah Vol. 1, will enlighten you to a lot of the lies that are put out to fool those who are not aware of the facts, the lies that are told to the western people, as well as others, to make them accept Islam as peaceful or holy. Christian Prince puts a knot in all of the bogus claims made by yesterday's and today's supposed scholars. He shows how ignorant the people who claim Islam is the religion of peace truly are.

Another powerhouse book from Christian Prince. He does a remarkable job of exposing the lies and deceit Islam. I have learned so much from Christian Prince and credit him greatly for the bulk of the knowledge I have about Islam. Due to the fact that Arabic is his native tongue, he is able to read Islamic books in Arabic, whish is very valuable since many Islamic books have never been translated from Arabic. The Muslim world tries to hide what is in its books, but Christian Prince exposes their books and shows how Islamic doctrine itself is the number one enemy of Islam.

I absolutely, 100% recommend this book as a resource to debunk the claims about Islam being scientific. And I likewise recommend his first book, the Deception of Allah, which concentrates on exposing Islamic doctrine.
