McCloud provides the first book-length study of this influential movement, highlighting the important ways that it reflects and diverts from the larger, neo-liberal culture from which it originates.

About the Author
Sean McCloud is an Associate Professor of Religious Studies and American Studies and Communication Studies Faculty Affiliate at The University of North Carolina at Charlotte. He teaches, publishes, and researches in the fields of American religions and religion and culture. His publications include Making the American Religious Fringe: Exotics, Subversives, and Journalists, 1955-1993 (2004), Divine Hierarchies: Class in American Religion and Religious Studies (2007), and a co-edited volume, Religion and Class in America: Culture, History, and Politics (2009).

This is a brilliant analysis of contemporary demonology

This is a brilliant analysis of contemporary demonology, which is not merely descriptive but raises (and answers) interesting theoretical questions. Far too few scholars are making connections between religion and capitalism, and McCloud's work stands out as particularly sophisticated on these matters.

Fighting the demons of neoliberalism

Another oh-so-insightful academic author wrings his hands over that there group of medieval hysterical hypocritical Christians in our midst. Can't they see the world is actually as he sees it? It can't be that their perspective is correct because - well, that's where you'll need to read this book.
