Celebrating Brit Shalom is a milestone: the first-ever book written for Jewish families, like mine, that have carefully weighed the potential benefits and risks of infant circumcision and have decided to opt out. Without being preachy or judgmental of those families who make a different choice, Celebrating Brit Shalom gets the tone just right. It is a respectful and affirming resource for the growing movement of intactivist Jews. Parents (and, of course, rabbis) can read through the ceremonies and use the one that speaks to them, or pull what they like from each ceremony to create their own personal service. This is a practical book, full of responsive prayers, readings, and original music. It lends itself to being ordered in multiples, one copy for each guest attending the service. There is a space at the front of the book where copies can be personalized with a baby's name and photo, making it a wonderful keepsake for those attending to take home with them. A truly unique, and much needed addition to the books on Jewish ritual. Literally a life changer!

Celebrating Brit Shalom can be a complete guide for those Jewish families who wish to welcome their baby boys and girls peacefully. In the case of baby boys, of course, this guide provides meaningful Jewish ceremonies for welcoming them without circumcision and stripping away their genital integrity. The book includes three types of ceremonies, each of which families can adapt as they choose. The authors supply spirituality, ritual, music, and songs. This is an incredibly thoughtful, inclusive guide for Jewish families who want to be in the forefront of developing a new tradition for welcoming babies. The book is an inspiration!

What a beautiful book! More and more people are making peaceful childcare a reality. Baby welcoming ceremonies are such a lovely thing, and now a book to support Jewish parents who want to welcome and name their son without circumcision. It's full of great stuff, and is so helpful in making sure your bris is everything you want it to be. Prayers, music, guidance, it's all there.
