The BEST SHORT BOOK on this topic that I've read. I'm now committed to meditation.

This author has an impressive list of short books in health, yoga, meditation, and diet. She is also a very capable organizer and writer. This book on meditation shows off very well her talents and dedication to peace and health.
First she gives us a little of the history and culture of meditation, then the many benefits. She doesn't tout one type of meditation over another but covers the main ones -- mindfulness, mantra and Zen. Then a list of workable exercises. I like the "walking meditation exercise." Combine that with "gratitude meditation exercise" and I believe I'll have something that is just right for me. Then what to do, what not to do, what to wear, and how to make meditation a lifestyle.
She says, "A major physical benefit is increased intelligence." Over the decades I've tried many ways to increase my brain's ability. So this is very much for me. Overcome depression and anxiety -- and many other benefits hinted at. It's a "holistic lifestyle that will help you get your mental, physical and spiritual selves into sync." Very well done.

This is a fascinating read for me and explains a lot of what I did not know about the subject. I like the manner in which the book is written as it divides meditation into purpose, history and results. In addition, the different types of meditation are listed which is another plus for me.
'Silence your mind' will be the most difficult part for me as mine is always constantly spinning. The fact that focus is improved by using meditation is a welcome bonus.
One thing that caught my attention was the portion on mindful meditation. My mother (bless her heart) used to do this nearly every night before she went to sleep. She never told me what it was called but did explain that for her it was a relaxation technique. Not sure where she learned about it but she was a nurse.
All in all, an excellent book which I feel explains mediation for beginners in a concise manner.

A very good introduction to meditation and an easy read. The explanation of what meditation is made it all very clear. The book then goes on to describe the different types of meditation. I enjoyed reading this book and was even surprised to find my own favorite exercise of walking can be a form of meditation. The book contains clear descriptions and easy to follow suggestions for how to begin a life of meditation. Recommended read.
